Friday night at 8:30 p.m., student-fronted film troupe Chamber 525 is bringing its recent works, ChamberMania, to the Centennial Hall courtyard. Kody Wynne, a junior mass media major, is the co-founder of Chamber 525 with friend and VSU student Jason Geigerman after the two had joined and attended meetings of the National Broadcasting Society who Wynne said “never did anything.”
Geigerman and Wynne decided never to go again and formed Chamber 525 to do student films. “We’re not a school-affiliated organization,” Wynne said. “I don’t know if we want school sponsorship. It would open doors but might put restrictions on stuff we do.”
ChamberMania, will feature films made by Chamber members either for class or “the other, y’know, just-for-the-hell-of-it films.” ChamberMania will be showing as many as eight studenthelmed movies and “should be a great way to meet people and inspire them to do their own stuff,” Wynne said.
People will not only get to view student films, but they also have a chance to win prizes. Prizes include CDs and t-shirts from Planetary Radio, who is sponsoring the event. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks may also be offered at the event.
With the end of the year fraternity blowout party Gorilla Thrilla and another VSU film festival taking place the same night as ChamberMania, Wynne remains confident that people will show for ChamberMania. This is the second annual ChamberMania. Last year’s festival went unadvertised and managed to draw 30 audience members regardless. This year’s festival boasts flyers around campus and Wynne says “if you’re too lame for Gorilla Thrilla and too good for VSU’s other film festival, come to ChamberMania.”
