Registering for classes is hard for everyone, especially first time transfer students. These students arrive at VSU with no idea if the credits they received from their previous school will transfer, thus causing complications as to what courses they should plan to register for now.
“Transfer students who have graduated with a degree shouldn’t find a problem with the acceptance of their credits from their previous school,” Terence Sullivan, academic advisor for the Student Success Center located in Langdale Residence Hall, said.
Sullivan went on to say that VSU has an obligation, if a student graduated from a two-year degree college, to accept him or her and process that credit from the two-year degree. As for students who transfer before graduating, if the student has completed an entire area in their core curriculum, they work to accept that credit.
“Although it is hard to register for classes, most people acquire the courses they need but maybe [not on] the first try,” Sullivan said.
During advising, the advisors give students choices and try to let them know what they could take as an alternative just in case their primary class choice is full. Sullivan also mentioned that they notify students to keep checking on the courses they wish to take that are full because things come up, leading some students who are registered for the course to drop.
The Student Success Center, located in Langdale Hall, is open for all students who need help in advising, as well as tutoring for classes. The Success Center is opened Monday—Thursday 9a.m. to 9p.m., Friday 9a.m. to 3p.m. and Sunday 4p.m. to 9p.m. If you wish to contact the SSC, call 333-7570.
