VSU Idol Review

If you are not guilty of being addicted to American Idol , you have more than likely caught of glimpse of this popular show. Singers from all over the country compete vocally, are judged by a tough panel and then move on with the popular vote of the audience.
On August 23, the Campus Activities Board sponsored a spin off competition in the University Center’s Magnolia Room. Carnell Roberts, Brittany Nelms, and Alex Freeman listened closely to each competitor as the contestant’s sang and recited original poetry. Each of the judges gave their thoughts and opinions of each performance.
Close to ten competitors gave the audience their best performances ever, but only three were chosen by the panel of judges to remain as the finalists. Of these three were sophomore Finance major Bryant Kelsey, Auxiliary Services Staff Member Darryl Britt, and Freshman Dentistry student Regina Morrison. Regina’s combination of poetry and song called “Love” won the crowds adoration putting her in first place. Morrison was awarded a Playstation PSP for her entertaining act. Bryant Kelsey recited his personal poem, “Sporadic Emotions,” and took home an Ipod Nano for second place. The third prize, a three piece stereo system, was given to Darryl Britt who sang a well known gospel song “I Can’t Complain” a cappella.
VSU Idol allowed students to share there artistic abilities and interests with their fellow students. Britt explained that he got involved in this event because he has reached his one month anniversary as a Valdosta State Staff member and wanted to show students that there is more to college than just studying.
The show’s host, Denarius “Deno” Johnson described VSU Idol as, “One event the many people are sure to remember.” Johnson also explained that, “There will be many other events sponsored by CAB and you should come out and enjoy them, especially if you missed VSU Idol.”
