VSU volleyball hosted Fort Valley State for Senior Night. This was the last chance for VSU seniors to play at home in front of their friends and family. VSU had four Seniors that were shown great appreciation before and after the match.

As fans walked through the door they were greeted with collages of the senior athletes. Kathrine Carter, Laura Boos, Niki Patriarca, and Brittney Borg, were all shown how much they meant to Head Coach Sia Poyer.

“They were apart of my first recruiting class here at Valdosta,” Poyer said.

Then all of the girls were accompanied by their parents in a presentation of jerseys. All of the parents were given roses in thanks for their participation of raising a quality student-athletes.

After all the pre-match festivities, the girls had to pull themselves together to play their final match. Boos ended her career with five digs. Carter had six kills, a .267 average, and three digs. Borg had 10 digs. Patriarca had her serve set on auto pilot in her final match. She wound up with three service aces, and 27 assists. These seniors will leave behind some pretty big shoes to fill.

Irene Hannan led the team with 11 kills, a .391 average, and six digs in her final match, earning All-GSC East first team honors to finish her season. Ruthie King had eight kills, with an outstanding .533 average. Chelsea Logan also had eight kills. Arielle Parnell had seven kills, with a .385 average. Emelia Saulter had one service ace. The girls took the match in straight sets and never gave up more than 12 points in any set. The girls end the season 18-19 and 5-7 in the conference. They finished the season with eight more wins than last. Next year should definitely be even better.
