The Valdosta State Chamber Singers will be performing some new and old holiday musical pieces during two candlelight performances at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday in West Hall’s rotunda.

According to Dr. Paul Neal, director of choral studies, this is not the first year the Valdosta State Chamber Singers has performed a concert at VSU. Dr. Neal said that the Singers usually perform along with the Concert Choir performance and these performances are usually held in the Whitehead Auditorium in the Fine Arts building.

“The West Hall Rotunda will be a great new experience and exposure for the Chamber Singers,” Dr. Neal said.

The Chamber Singers will be performing Renaissance motif, new compositions, traditional holiday songs such as “Joy to the World,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Silent Night” and more. The Chamber singers will also perform a new Christmas carol, “In the Bleak Midwinter,” written by Dr. James Shrader, chair of the department of music. Dr. Neal said that interested people will have to attend the concert to hear what other musical pieces will be performed by the Valdosta State Chamber Singers.

Dr. Neal is expecting about 100 people to attend each performance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The last day to purchase tickets is on Friday and no tickets will be sold at the door. For tickets call 229-333-5812 or go by the choir office, in the Fine Arts building room 244A, on Thursday from 2-5 p.m.

All proceeds made from the concert will support the Chamber Singers’ spring tour to Nashville, Tenn., in March 2009.
