As the rest of the student body gears up for final exams and summer break, the VSU baseball team has several games remaining on the schedule.  For starters, the team begins play in the GSC Tournament in Millington, Tenn.  The first game up for the Blazers is Southern Arkansas.  SAU has a record of 44-9, and 18-3 in conference, and is ranked #2.  VSU brings a record of 37-17, and 111-7 in conference, and is receiving votes but is not officially ranked.
The two teams have not met this season; however, the match up is quite appealing.  Delta State recently upset SAU, so the team is by no means unbeatable.  The Blazers have won 7 of their last 8 games, and seem to be at the top of their game.
Logan Pierce has received the GSC Baseball Player of the Week this week.  This marks the third time this season that a baseball player from Valdosta State has been recognized with this achievement.  Pierce joins Matt Costello, who has received the honor twice this season, as GSC Players of the Week.
With a good showing at the conference championship the team stands to receive a bid to play in the NCAA Regional Tournament that is set to begin on May 14.  VSU will have to play their way through the tournament and will hopefully wind up at the College World Series in Cary, North Carolina.  That tournament begins on May 22.
The Blazers have a very good chance of getting far in the conference tournament and the regional tournament.  If the team can muster up a little bit of luck coming down the home stretch,  it could be possible for the VSU team to win it all.
The students should rally around the team in the last two weeks of school, and keep in mind that while the student body is cramming for finals, or trying to get in one last party for they go home for summer, VSU could be on the verge of something special.  It is possible that when school begins in the fall, there could be more trophies in the case for the Blazers.
