The first week of school fills the air with a mixture of mass confusion, excitement, and various levels of annoyance. Between construction and the herds of new students learning their way around, it seems like it takes forever to get anywhere on campus.
Upperclassmen and employees at VSU spent the first week of school in a blur of questions from freshmen as to where anything and everything was in relation to their current location. It seems as though exploring was not an option for many students.
Here are a few locations that the freshmen should consider during their first year at VSU.
The counseling center is located in Powell Hall on main campus. There students have free access to counselors to help them deal with the stresses of freshmen year, personal dilemmas, breakups, and other dramas associated with being away from home.
If your issues are more academically related, the Student Success Center is located in Langdale Hall. SSC provides free tutoring in all subjects and tutors can now be accessed online.
Hunger is a driving force for the students at VSU. The campus holds two main dining halls: Hopper and Palms. Both locations allow for students to use their meal plans as payment.
While the two dining halls provide all you can eat, other dining options include the Palms Retail Center, Sky Ranch and Chick-Fil-A at the U.C., and Einstein Bros Bagels at the Education Center.
The school also offers convenience stores located at Langdale and Cenntinial (Sustella Market). Each store provides students with items ranging from candy, microwavable meals, soap, and personal hygiene items.
Freshmen will spend a majority of their first year on main campus, for core classes are usually located on main campus. West Hall holds classes for English, foreign language and history. Bio-Chem. Building is a predominately science oriented building and Nevins houses classes ranging from math to speech.
The layout of Valdosta State is very simple. Just make sure you manage your time wisely, as well as your Blazer Bucks because both manage to dwindle away as the semester progresses.
