The VSU baseball team posted an impressive 4-0 record this past week with some key batting from center fielder Antonio Clark.
Clark hit .688 (11-16) over the four-game stretch as he drove in four runs while scoring eight runs and stealing three bases.
“He is as hot as anyone can be,” Greg Guilliams, Valdosta State University head coach, said. “I remember last year when Matt Castello had like 13 or 14 straight hits, but probably since then, this is the hottest hitter we’ve had. He is getting good pitches to hit and he is just not missing any.”
Clark hit from the top of the order in all four games as he led the Blazers’ offensive attack that outscored their opponents 51-22. In game one of the three-game series with Augusta State, Clark led VSU as he was 4-5 from the plate, while he scored four runs and drove in a run. Clark also led VSU on Tuesday night with another 4-5 performance that consisted of two RBIs and two runs scored.
Clark’s 11 hits ties him with Jake Summer for the second most hits on the team, as Clayton Cain and Brandon Decker lead the team with 14 hits each.
Clark is second on the team in steals with three, which is one shy of Ryan Danberry, who leads the team with four.
Currently, Cain and Decker are tied with Jordan Yost with a team best, two homeruns, while Decker leads the team in RBIs with 14, and Cain and Yost each have 11.
