Curnell named South Region Player of the Year

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State senior Tyrone Curnell has been named the Daktronics South Region Player of the Year, according to a vote by the region Sports Information Directors.

Curnell averaged 17.7 points and 8.6 rebounds a game during the 2009-10 season while leading the Blazers to a 25-4 season and a spot in the NCAA South Region Tournament.

The senior forward led Valdosta State in points, rebounds and steals during the year while standing second on the squad in blocks and assists. He tallied 11 double-doubles on the season.

AS the top vote-getter, Curnell was also a member of the All-South Region team and will advance to the All-America ballot.
