Blazers baseball falls to Bobcats

Milledgville—The 15th ranked Valdosta State fell to No. 16 Georgia College and State University 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
Last Wednesday night the Blazers knocked off GSCU in 13 innings at Billy Grant Field. This week the Bobcats came from behind and took care of the Blazers.
GSCU (30-12) started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a single run only to have VSU (35-13) respond with two runs of their own in the top of the third inning.
GCSU’s Shawn Ward put the Bobcats back in front for good with his 11th home run of the season as the three run homerun put GCSU ahead 4-2. Ward eventually added another homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Clayton Cain knocked his 16th home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning to bring VSU within two runs.
GCSU added three more runs in the final three innings to secure the win over Valdosta State. Chris Wrobel, who allowed the three run homerun to Ward, was credited with his second loss of the season.
Cain’s 16th home run moves him one behind All-American Brandon Decker, who leads VSU with 17 homeruns on the season.
Valdosta State returns to action this Saturday when they visit West Florida. Valdosta State will send Brett Kennedy, Ross Gusky and Jeremy Forbus to the mound for the three game set.
The Blazers are currently second in the GSC East behind West Florida. The team is also one of two GSC teams ranked alone with No. 1 Southern Arkansas which has not lost a conference game all season.
The Blazers will be in action again on Saturday against division rival West Florida as the two team battle it out for GSC East domniance.
