BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Any fan of Lady Blazer basketball is familiar with the names Kiley Hill, Tracey Sprolden and Carley Peterson. All three are staples at Valdosta State, but the trio also made its mark in the Gulf South Conference record books.

Hill was named the GSC East Coach of the Decade, beating out Craig Roden of West Alabama and West Georgia and Shannan Bergen of West Florida for the honor. Sprolden was named to the first team while Peterson made the second team.

Valdosta State was also named the fourth best team in the entire conference throughout the decade behind Delta State, Central Arkansas and Arkansas Tech in that order.

From 2001-2010, Hill led the Lady Blazers to a record of 190-98. This season he earned his 200th career victory in the GSC East, as he also coached a season at West Alabama. Also in 2010, Hill was named GSC East Coach of the Year. That marked the second time he earned the honor, previously winning it in 2007. Four times throughout the first decade of the 21st century the Lady Blazers were champions of the GSC East, winning in 2005, 2007, 2009 and going undefeated in conference play to take the honor in 2010. VSU made the GSC Tournament eight times throughout the decade and participated in the NCAA tournament five times, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2008.

Even though she spent four seasons at Valdosta State, Sprolden only played two seasons in this decade over her career from 1997-2001. The 2001 GSC East Player of the Year was the only forward to make the first team. She still holds the conference record in career blocked shots and scored nearly 2,000 points at Valdosta State. She finished with 1,901 points for an average of 17.8 points per game.

Peterson made it two Lady Blazers on the squad. Only West Florida had more. Peterson made the second team thanks to her shooting prowess and sheer domination from 2004-08 at Valdosta State. Peterson was named All-GSC East twice and an All-American in her senior season. She joined the 1,000 point club, finishing her career with 1,133 points.
