Lady Blazers win home-opener

Valdosta State fell behind early to Armstrong Atlantic Tuesday night, but bounced back to win the second set. After dropping the third set, VSU gained its composure and won sets four and five for the win (20-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-20, 15-10) and to move to 5-3 on the season.
The home crowd was behind the Lady Blazers throughout all five sets and the team caught momentum in the fifth. After falling behind, 1-4, in the final frame, Valdosta State came out of a timeout to go on a 7-1 run to make it 8-5. The Lady Blazers used a .350 attacking percentage to gain the win in the fifth set.
Chelsea Logan, who led the team with Irene Hannan in kills (14 each), put away the final kill of the match off an Emelia Saulter assist.
Saulter put up 36 assists while Hope Ripsam pitched in 20 to bring the team total to 58, 10 more than Armstrong Atlantic.
Chelsea Luttfring cleaned the floor for VSU, notching 32 digs on the night. She had at least 10 more than any player from both teams. Ruthie King added 17 while Hannan earned 16 digs. Saulter notched 15 digs.
The Valdosta State defense held the Pirates to just a .185 attacking percentage for the match.
The Lady Blazers return to the road this weekend to face Gulf South Conference West foes Arkansas Tech, Christian Brothers and Henderson State at the Alabama-Huntsville Invitational.
