Former student found dead

Carlton Quintez “Tez” Wimbish, a former VSU student who pursued a mechanical engineer major, died on Jan. 1.

Authorities believe it was suicide, but the case is still under investigation by the Valdosta Police Department, said Lt. Aaron Kirk of the VPD.

Wimbish was born in Atlanta, Ga. on Jan. 1, 1989.

He graduated from Stockbridge High School in 2007 and attended VSU starting in Fall 2007 and was enrolled as recently as 2010.

To friends and family, Wimbish was loyal, caring, devoted and willing to help in any situation.

“Tez was a passionate person no matter who you were,” Brandon Byrd, grad student, said. “I never known for him to have any enemies, he was the guy anybody could get along with.”

During his schooling in the Dekalb-Lithonia County in Stockbridge, Ga., Wimbish was involved in karate, swimming, cross country, football, baseball and track.

A wake for Wimbish was held on Jan. 7, and funeral on Jan. 8 in Stockbridge, Ga. at Greater New Hope Christian Assembly.

“If you were to know Tez as a person, you would be more than thankful to have him as an angel,” Byrd said.
