Noise Ordinance in Panama City

Summer is supposed to be a time when you can just let loose and have fun. Scream and shout, and not worry about facing any repercussions. According to Panama City Beach officials, visitors will no longer be able to possess this carefree attitude.

The city has recently issued a new noise ordinance due to residents complaining about the loud ruckus of tourists. The ordinance will go into effect on June 24 of this year.

Since Panama City welcomes most of its visitors during spring break and summer, this will certainly be a difficult task for officials and they will definitely have their hands full.

The city also takes in most of its revenue during this time period, which worries business owners who may experience a decrease in sales. Visitors also do not like the idea of possibly getting a ticket or being placed in jail for simply trying to enjoy themselves.

As far as my own opinion on the matter, I am able to understand both sides of the argument.  Sure, I would like to go out and have a good time without having to worry about getting in trouble for it.

At the same time, I know I could be one of those people that complain about the group of people that are yelling and screaming for no reason at the local restaurant.  I believe a noise ordinance near the bars and clubs of the area would be appropriate, rather than hotels or shopping areas.  This way they could keep a tab on people that might get out of hand and start trouble.  I do not believe the ordinance should cover areas such as hotels or shopping areas.  Also, the ordinance should be geared more towards the evening rather than during the day since tourists come to Panama City not only for the beach, but for the night life.
