Good fashions equal good grades

ATTENTION to all of my little fashion stars in training: nobody wants to see what you slept in the night before class, I promise.

I know, the college lifestyle can be demanding, hectic and often frustrating — after all, those 10 page papers don’t write themselves and pulling “all-nighters” for exams makes for a less than energetic student the next day. The pressure of college often takes a toll on the lives of students, and their wardrobes. Don’t fret though my darlings, the solution is easier than finding a parking space.

Of course it’s simpler to just throw on those sweats for the sake of time and being “comfortable,” but come on; it doesn’t take too much longer to dress appropriately. No, I’m not saying that it’s necessary to show up to your 8 a.m. class in your prom dress, Cartier jewelry and six inch Christian Loubitons, but actual pants wouldn’t hurt.

Remember the saying “dress for the job you want?” Well, right now we are all training for our future — shouldn’t our wardrobe reflect our goals and aspirations? The repercussions of dressing well in college span farther than simply looking nice– wrapping yourself up in an attractive little package speaks volumes to others about the way you feel about yourself. It shows that you value your appearance and that you take yourself seriously, and others will too. Also, though I agree it isn’t completely fair, people will judge you based on your appearance and first impressions are everything.

Often, you have a very limited window when meeting new people to make a great first impression. This is how people will form their opinions of you; this is how they will remember you.

Why do people dress up when they have to give a speech or presentation for class? Because clothing means confidence! You wouldn’t stand up in front of a group of your peers with their undivided attention wearing what you slept in the night before, would you? No, because subconsciously we all know that there’s a little something to this whole dressing well deal. As a result of dressing up for that presentation, you’re able to stand tall and execute your task in front of others, and they listen. Wouldn’t you like to have that spirit of fearlessness all the time?

Aside from the obvious advantages, dressing well makes you feel so good about yourself — and it’s fun! Don’t reserve your fashion skills for presentations and interviews, take pride in your appearance all of the time — you deserve it! Taking a tiny little step out of your comfort zone with your wardrobe will make a world of difference in your life. Leave those sweats in your dorm and opt for a pair of skinny jeans or jeggings, trade the sneakers and flip flops in for flats or a precious pair of sandals and swap the t-shirts for a casual dress or blouse! Follow these simple steps and get ready to receive an A+ in FASHION!
