Blazer Zone a success

The tailgate in Drexel Park last Saturday before the opening game against Wingate was a success according to Director of Marketing of Athletics Tom Hughes.
Despite the success, many feel that VSU students can still do more to be involved and show team spirit.
“The hamburgers provided by SGA were great, and the environment was fun and friendly, but I expected more people to be here than are,” Colby Harris, a VSU alumnus, said.
The tailgate featured free food, entertainment, games for people of all ages and live radio broadcast from Talk 92.1.
Announcements were made throughout the week on VSU’s campus and also the day of the event at the Student Union.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes were also among the small crowd, and went above and beyond their “call of duty,” by providing entertainment, food, and commissioning several key note speakers at the event.
“This is such a neat thing that is taking place, it is fun, but we need more people to come out and participate,” Glen Jones, a member of both VSU FCA and the Crosspointe Baptist Church Grill Team said.
The tailgate was held from noon to 6 p.m. and those who attended said they would definitely return to Drexel Park before the next home game.
“I have enjoyed the time here in Drexel Park so much,” Sarah Dunn, a junior Middle Grades Education major, said. “This has been a very rewarding day, for me to be here supporting the Blazers.”
The Blazers next home game will be against Delta State on Sept. 18. There will be a tailgating party before the game in Drexel Park. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
