Valdosta to hold electronics recycling event

On Nov. 6, Valdosta residents and businesses will be able to discard their old electronics in an environmentally safe manner at the Free Electronics Recycling Event between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Mathis City Auditorium.

“Our goal is to encourage Valdosta citizens to discard used or unwanted electronic equipment in a convenient and environmentally responsible manner,” John Whitehead, III, City of
Valdosta deputy city manager for operations, said.

This event allows citizens to help the environment by recycling their electronics.

Participants will be able to dispose of several items such as cell phones, laptops cables, cameras and computer accessories.

Televisions are accepted but at a cost of $10 because of recycling and transportation fees.

“We encourage all citizens to come out,” John J. Fretti, mayor of Valdosta, said.

While gas-powered and non-electronic equipment will not be accepted at the event, the Public Works Department can be contacted for pick up arrangements.

The event is sponsored by the city as well as Keep Lowndes/ Valdosta Beautiful and Atlanta Recycling Solutions.
