Winter weather advisory in effect; classes cancelled

Written by: John Preer

Winter weather storm Leon has been making its way across many coastal states in the region and the Valdosta area is expected to experience a wintry mix of rain and sleet.

As a result Valdosta State University, as well as many surrounding county schools, has shut down and cancelled classes as of 5:30 pm Jan. 28.  The University will resume normal operating hours Thursday Jan. 30.

All classes and administrative offices will be closed.  However, on Wednesday Jan. 29 the Student Union and Student Recreation Center will be open until 6 pm and 8 pm respectively.

Palms Dining Center will remain open and maintain regular operation hours.  All other food service facilities will be closed until the campus reopens.

Due to the potentially hazardous weather conditions, students are urged to avoid driving if at all possible.  The campus bus service will end this evening at 8:00 pm and won’t resume its regular operation schedule until Thursday morning.
