Cherie’s Picks Week of October 16

Hey fellow Blazers, welcome to a new column where we highlight events on campus for the upcoming week. This will be an exciting week for activities because it’s VSU’s annual Homecoming Week.

Kicking off this week, The Student Life Office is hosting “Fan Fest!” on Monday Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Converse Square. The event offers rides, free foods, and more to kick off Homecoming Week festivities.

The Psychology Club is hosting “Interview Skills and Tips with Career Services” on Tuesday Oct. 17 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Converse Hall room 1302. This event will focus on sharing skills and tips to help succeed in interviews including the proper attire, what to put in a resume and how to convey yourself to possible employers and grad schools.

Also on Tuesday Oct. 17 The Student Life Office is hosting “Fat Tuesday” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Student Union. This event offers Mardi Gras style food, arts and crafts, and Casino games with prizes worth over $3,000.

The Student Life Office is hosting “Blazer Night of Neons: Pep Rally & After Party” on Thursday Oct. 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the PE Complex. This event offers a meet and greet of the athletic teams with a DJ and glow party following. Stick around for the crowning of our Homecoming title holders.

The College of Science and Mathematics is hosting “GUIDES Campus Cleanup” on Friday Oct. 20 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. meeting at Bailey Science Center by the bison. This event will include picking up trash around Bailey Science Center, West Hall and Nevins Hall. Cleanup supplies will be provided with the opportunity to earn 1.5 service hours.

Don’t forget to cheer on our Blazers by attending the “Homecoming Parade” in the Oak Street Parking Lot as well as the “Blazer Tailgate” in the UC Lot both starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 21. VSU Football v.s. Shorter University at our Bazemore-Hyder Stadium takes place at 1:15 p.m. thus concluding VSU’s 2023 Homecoming Week.
